Genevieve Guenther, a climate change activist and consultant, continues to challenge what she describes as anti-climate disinformation driven by political interests. Guenther, who is the founding director of End Climate Silence—a media watchdog organization focused on combating misinformation about global warming—has long advocated for increased and more accurate news coverage on climate issues.
In addition to her role at End Climate Silence, Guenther serves as an affiliate faculty member of the Tishman Environment and Design Center at New York’s New School. She is also the author of several books addressing climate communication and the influence of fossil fuel interests, including *The Language of Climate Politics*, *Fossil-Fuel Propaganda and How to Fight It*.
This spring, Guenther contributed an article to the Bulletin of Atomic Scientists addressing recent claims from conservative commentators minimizing the urgency of climate change. These commentators argued that climate change risks are declining, attributing this to advancements in clean energy technologies and carbon reduction efforts. Guenther disputed this narrative, emphasizing that despite some progress, the threat posed by climate change remains severe.
The article, titled “Sorry, climate change is still dangerous, no matter what nonsense Trump emits,” directly challenged statements from former President Donald Trump and his allies, who have frequently downplayed the environmental crisis. Guenther’s critique centered on the dangers of complacency and misinformation, warning that such political spin undermines public understanding and policy action necessary for addressing climate risks.
By highlighting ongoing misinformation campaigns and advocating for informed media reporting, Guenther seeks to ensure that discussions around climate policy remain grounded in scientific evidence and reality.
