GenomaLab Medical Group has announced plans to invest nearly $10 million in Oman’s healthcare sector within its first year of operation, according to the company’s chief executive. The healthcare and life sciences firm has initiated activities in the Sultanate, with a focus on deploying advanced medical technologies and expanding regional healthcare services.
Dr. A Shavki, CEO of GenomaLab Medical LLC, stated that the company is currently recruiting staff and expects to employ between 30 and 50 people initially, including at least 10 Omani nationals as part of compliance with local employment regulations. GenomaLab’s operations will span both the SOHAR Port and Freezone area and the Omani mainland, thereby enabling the company to serve domestic healthcare institutions and potentially reach wider regional and international markets.
The firm’s investment is aligned with Oman’s Vision 2040, which aims to enhance private-sector participation in healthcare, strengthen local scientific capabilities, and promote the adoption of innovative medical technologies. GenomaLab’s projected offerings will include continuous glucose monitoring systems for diabetes management, home healthcare products, stem-cell banking, gene and cell therapies, and next-generation sequencing (NGS) tests.
NGS technology, which enables the analysis of large volumes of genetic data simultaneously, is expected to support the diagnosis and monitoring of inherited disorders, cancers, and other diseases. However, the introduction of these advanced services will depend on obtaining the appropriate local regulatory approvals and licenses.
The company has already entered into agreements with two clinics to provide diabetes-related services, though it has not disclosed the names of these healthcare providers or the commercial details of the contracts. Additionally, GenomaLab is engaged in ongoing discussions with both public and private organizations concerning stem-cell biobanking, technology transfer, cell and gene therapy, and NGS testing capabilities.
To raise public awareness and increase accessibility, GenomaLab plans to launch a nationwide campaign in November offering free screening tests for diabetes patients. Further information concerning the locations, participating clinics, and eligibility criteria is expected to be announced closer to the event.
Diabetes remains a significant public health challenge across the Gulf region, driving demand for early diagnosis, continuous monitoring, and technologies that enable outpatient disease management. GenomaLab aims to combine local market access with regional logistics and international scientific expertise, providing comprehensive laboratory infrastructure, diagnostic equipment, biotechnology services, and technical support.
Operating under a turnkey model, the company supports projects from initial laboratory design through equipment installation, commissioning, validation, and ongoing supply of necessary technologies and consumables. While the initial investment encompasses recruitment and partnership development, GenomaLab has not provided details on whether funds will be allocated to establishing dedicated laboratory or production facilities, nor has it outlined a detailed timeline for rolling out individual services in Oman.
