George Best’s European Cup winner’s medal from Manchester United’s 1968 triumph sold for £305,200 at auction in London. The medal commemorates Best’s contribution to the Red Devils' 4-1 victory over Benfica at Wembley Stadium, a match in which Best scored as Manchester United secured their first European Cup title.

The auction, conducted by Bonhams, featured the medal offered by a private collector. Alongside the medal, a shirt worn by British referee Jack Taylor during the 1974 World Cup final also attracted attention, fetching £28,160.
