Trainer George Boughey is preparing his colt Bow Echo for a highly anticipated meeting in the Sussex Stakes at Goodwood, setting up a third encounter with Aidan O’Brien’s Gstaad and the addition of Charlie Appleby’s Opera Ballo. Bow Echo, who previously triumphed in both the Guineas and Royal Ascot, remains unbeaten against Gstaad after narrowly defeating him at Newmarket. However, the Ballydoyle stable’s team reversed the outcome at Ascot's St James’s Palace Stakes, where Bow Echo finished behind O’Brien’s contender.

Bow Echo will be ridden by Billy Loughnane, who managed to hold off Gstaad by a short head in their previous contest. With an impressive £1.5 million prize at stake, Boughey expects stiff competition, especially with O’Brien entering multiple runners, including pace-setters Puerto Rico and Dorset, and Appleby joining the field with Opera Ballo.

Reflecting on the Ascot race, Boughey acknowledged the challenge but expressed confidence in his horse’s development, saying the experience "made a man of him." He described the Sussex Stakes as a “real showdown,” with 12 runners likely to produce intense competition. Boughey also highlighted the tactical nature of the race, noting that drawing positions suggest Gstaad and Opera Ballo may take early leads.

He emphasized Bow Echo’s "real turn of foot" and believes the race’s setup at Goodwood, known for its fast track, will suit the colt’s strengths. Boughey expressed enthusiasm about the upcoming event, calling it “a real highlight of the summer” and a race his team is eager to contest. The Sussex Stakes promises to deliver a competitive test among three leading 3-year-olds, as Bow Echo aims to maintain his unbeaten record against top-tier rivals.
