Libertango, the Royal Ascot-winning filly trained by George Boughey, is set to compete at Newmarket’s upcoming July Festival. The two-year-old captured attention with a strong performance in the Albany Stakes, where she overcame a low draw and racing difficulties to defeat Aidan O’Brien’s favourite, Sun Goddess.

Sun Goddess subsequently claimed victory in the Group Two Airlie Stud Stakes at the Curragh just eight days later, underscoring the quality of competition Libertango faced at Albany.

Rob Speers, racing manager to Libertango’s owner Ibrahim Araci, confirmed the filly remained in excellent condition following her latest run. “Libertango came out of her race in great form, George is really happy with her,” Speers said. He added that the filly was scheduled to run next in the Duchess of Cambridge Stakes at Newmarket’s July meeting.

The Duchess of Cambridge Stakes, run over six furlongs—the same distance as the Albany Stakes—features a challenging uphill finish that Boughey’s team believes suits Libertango’s racing style. Speers highlighted the filly’s adaptability and sharp acceleration, noting, “She will love the course and the uphill finish.”

Looking ahead beyond Newmarket, the connections have indicated plans for Libertango to potentially face colts in France’s Group One Prix Morny in August, should her performance at the July Festival meet expectations. “If it all goes well at Newmarket, I know George will likely take on the colts in the Group One in France in August – the Prix Morny,” Speers said.

Boughey’s enthusiasm for Libertango is evident, with Speers noting the filly’s impressive work in training prior to her racing successes. “George made no secret about how much we all liked her. She’d done some spectacular pieces of work at home to be honest and she’s got a real turn of foot,” he remarked.

Libertango’s rising profile marks her as a filly to watch through the summer’s key juvenile fixtures as she aims to build on her early victories against strong competition.
