Russell, who has secured two wins so far, conceded that Antonelli’s consistent high-level performances have given the Italian a clear advantage in the championship race. “Kimi is performing better than me and he deserves to be leading the championship,” Russell said ahead of Sunday’s Spanish Grand Prix. “There is still a long way to go, but he is performing exceptionally well.”

Despite the sizable points gap, Russell remains focused on improving his own performance rather than dwelling on the challenge ahead. He pointed out that his form has improved since the summer break and emphasized the importance of continuing to drive faster. At the same time, he acknowledged that some elements beyond his control will need to fall in his favor. “I definitely need some luck and I need some good performances,” he said. “If I am going to win the world championship, I will need some luck along the way. I am not focused on that. I am focused on driving faster.”
