Isaiah Likely emerged as a key contributor in the New York Giants’ 28-20 victory over the Dallas Cowboys in the NFL season opener on Sunday. Following his move from the Baltimore Ravens to the Giants on a three-year, $40 million contract, Likely demonstrated why head coach John Harbaugh invested in him, catching all eight of his targets for 78 yards and two touchdowns.

The game, held at the Giants’ home field, marked the first win under Harbaugh’s leadership and highlighted the importance of Likely’s role in a receiving corps that otherwise faces questions beyond standout Malik Nabers. Likely’s performance helped mitigate concerns about the Giants’ depth at wide receiver as he consistently found openings against a Dallas secondary that struggled to contain him throughout the contest.

Likely was the primary target for quarterback Jaxson Dart on several critical plays, including a pivotal 19-yard catch on an out route during a second-quarter drive. He also caught Dart’s best pass of the night in the first half, a touchdown reception in the corner of the end zone that capped a six-play, 55-yard series. Later in the game, Likely secured his second touchdown on a red zone play during a 12-play drive that extended the Giants’ lead to 21-7.

Late in the fourth quarter, with the Cowboys threatening to narrow the deficit, Dart turned to Likely on two crucial third-down attempts to sustain the drive and maintain possession. His ability to perform in high-pressure situations underscored his value to the team’s offensive strategy.

“We’ve been practicing since training camp, focusing on execution and letting our talent shine,” Likely said after the game. “Finally showing the world what we’ve been practicing feels great.”

Malik Nabers also praised Likely’s contributions, calling it “great playing” alongside him, reflecting a growing chemistry between the two receivers and Dart. The Giants’ win was a notable achievement for the franchise and set a positive tone for Harbaugh’s tenure as head coach.
