The New York Giants have re-signed veteran wide receiver Braxton Berrios to their practice squad ahead of their Week 1 game against the Dallas Cowboys at MetLife Stadium. Head coach John Harbaugh confirmed Monday that Berrios is expected to serve as the team’s primary punt returner.

Berrios was initially released Sunday to meet the NFL’s 53-man roster deadline, but the Giants had a verbal agreement to bring him back. Because he has accrued veteran status, Berrios did not need to clear waivers, allowing the Giants to retain another player who might otherwise have been lost to waivers. This roster maneuvering provides flexibility as the team finalizes its lineup.

Harbaugh indicated that the Giants plan to treat Berrios as if he were on the active roster, either by elevating him as a game-day participant from the practice squad or by making an accompanying roster move—such as placing someone on injured reserve—to sign him fully to the 53-man roster. Practice squad elevations are limited to three per player each season.

The Giants made no waiver claims Monday after being fifth in the waiver order. Linebacker Darius Muasau was the only player waived by New York to be claimed, going to the New England Patriots.

In other roster decisions, the Giants retained four running backs for the regular-season roster, including Tyrone Tracy Jr., who struggled during the preseason but was kept along with Cam Skattebo, Najee Harris, and Devin Singletary. Harbaugh emphasized that the group represents the team’s best options and expects all four to contribute on game days.

Quarterbacks Jake Haener and wide receiver Jalin Hyatt, both waived Sunday, were re-signed to the practice squad. Haener will serve as the team’s third-string quarterback, while Hyatt, who saw limited action during training camp due to injury, provides additional depth.

Additionally, the Giants filled out their practice squad by signing wide receiver Dalen Cambre, linebacker Chandler Martin, outside linebacker Trace Ford, fullback Grant Finley, defensive lineman Josh Tupou, safety Raheem Layne, cornerback JT Woods, offensive lineman Ryan Schernecke, defensive lineman Ben Barten, and international offensive lineman Jarrod Gray.

With these additions, the Giants retained four open slots available on their practice squad under the 16-player limit plus one international pathway roster spot. The moves reflect the team’s ongoing efforts to balance depth and special teams capabilities as they prepare for the regular season opener.
