The New York Giants conducted a workout session on Monday involving 18 free agent players, including linebacker Kenneth Murray, just two days before their training camp begins in West Virginia. Head coach John Harbaugh oversaw the evaluation of 10 offensive and eight defensive players as the team continues efforts to bolster its roster ahead of the NFL season.
Among the defensive participants were linebackers Kenneth Murray and Chandler Martin, as well as defensive backs Tony Grimes, Ahmaad Moses, and Sam Webb. Defensive tackles Daniel Ekuale, Folo Fatukasi, and Marlon Davidson also took part, as the Giants seek to strengthen their run defense and interior line. The team has been addressing depth issues following the departure of Dexter Lawrence via trade to the Cincinnati Bengals and losing Roy Robertson-Harris to a torn Achilles earlier this year.
Murray, 27, is a former first-round draft pick by the Los Angeles Chargers who played for Giants defensive coordinator Dennard Wilson during the 2024 season with the Tennessee Titans. Last season, he started 16 games for the Dallas Cowboys. Ekuale, 32, appeared in 16 starts for the New England Patriots in 2024 before backing up the Pittsburgh Steelers in seven games. Fatukasi, 31, played in only four games for the Houston Texans last year but had consistent playing time over the previous four seasons with the Jets, Jaguars, and Texans.
On the offensive side, the Giants evaluated quarterback Jake Haener, wide receivers Malik Heath and Eric McAlister, running back Kylin James, and three tight ends: Zach Davidson, Tyler Moore, and Scotty Washington. Offensive linemen Jake Curhan, Luke Felix-Fualalo, and Derek Simmons also participated.
The team’s workout comes as it prepares for a rigorous training camp schedule of 10 practices in 11 days at the Greenbrier Resort in West Virginia, starting Wednesday. The Giants have made several roster adjustments in July, including waiving injured cornerback Rico Payton and linebacker Cam Jones, a special teams contributor. The club also briefly added defensive lineman C.J. Ravenell off waivers from the Tennessee Titans on July 7 before releasing him with a non-football injury designation.
Additionally, the Giants opened camp with three players placed on the physically unable to perform list: tight end Thomas Fidone II, recovering from offseason foot surgery, and defensive linemen Roy Robertson-Harris and Sam Roberts, both coming off offseason surgeries. The recent moves and workouts reflect the team’s ongoing efforts to finalize its roster and improve depth in key areas ahead of the regular season.
