A fifth-grade student at Gabtali Government Primary School in Betagi upazila, Barguna, sustained serious injuries after being assaulted by a youth on Monday. The girl lost three front teeth and suffered damage to two others following the attack. She is currently receiving treatment at Barguna General Hospital.

According to the victim and local residents, the incident appears to have followed a prior episode involving the same youth, named Faisal. Several days before the assault, Faisal allegedly peeped at the girl while she was using the school washroom. Following this, she informed her family, who said Faisal then threatened her.

On Monday, after classes concluded, Faisal reportedly grabbed the girl and attempted to pull her away. He then struck her with slaps and kicks before fleeing the scene. A teacher at the school, Nani Gopal Malakar, said Faisal was seen roaming around the school carrying a stick.

Authorities said the police detained Faisal’s mother, Shirin Begum, and were actively seeking to arrest Faisal. A formal complaint was filed by the victim’s mother late Monday evening at Betagi Police Station. The case is currently under investigation.
