Claude Giroux is set to return to the Ottawa Senators after reaching an agreement on a one-year contract for the upcoming NHL season. The deal reportedly includes a base salary of $2 million, with the potential to earn up to $5 million through performance-based bonuses.

Giroux, 38, had been linked to a possible return to the Philadelphia Flyers during the free agency period but ultimately did not rejoin his original NHL team. The Ontario native spent the first 15 seasons of his career with the Flyers, from 2008 until he was traded to the Florida Panthers at the 2022 trade deadline. Since then, he has played four seasons with the Senators.

With Brady Tkachuk having been traded to the Panthers, Giroux is considered a leading candidate to assume the role of team captain in Ottawa. His extensive experience and leadership qualities are expected to be valuable assets for the Senators as they move forward into the new season.
