Nottingham Forest manager Oliver Glasner expressed frustration over a refereeing decision following his team’s 1-1 draw with Ipswich Town at Portman Road. Glasner disagreed with referee Thomas Bramall’s choice to issue a yellow card, rather than a red, to Ipswich defender Issa Diop for a foul on midfielder James McAtee early in the second half.
The incident occurred with the score level at 1-1. Diop brought down McAtee, who was in a promising position to break clear toward goal. Bramall initially did not award a free kick but ultimately cautioned Diop, contending that McAtee was moving away from goal at the time of the foul. Video Assistant Referee (VAR) had recommended a review, and Bramall consulted the pitchside monitor before confirming his decision.
Glasner acknowledged that the referee followed proper procedures but maintained that he disagreed with the outcome. “It was the right procedure. The VAR intervenes, he goes to the screen and takes a decision. This was everything correct. I just have a different opinion to the referee,” Glasner stated.
Ipswich defender Diop defended himself, denying any wrongdoing, and said he believed a red card was not warranted. Ipswich manager Gary O’Neil supported the referee’s decision, saying, “They came to the right conclusion.”
Forest started the match strongly, taking the lead in the 13th minute through Neco Williams. The goal followed a contentious build-up in which Ipswich captain Dara O’Shea believed Williams was fouled by Morgan Gibbs-White, but Williams remained unmarked to finish from Daniel Munoz’s cross.
Ipswich responded before halftime when Julio Enciso capitalized on a defensive error by Forest defender Nikola Milenkovic, who under-hit a back-pass. Enciso held off a defender and scored past goalkeeper Matz Sels to level the score in the 41st minute.
Throughout the remainder of the match, Forest pressed for a winner and created several chances. Ipswich goalkeeper Leif Davis made multiple goal-line saves to deny Morgan Gibbs-White and Dan Ndoye. Former Ipswich player Liam Delap tested the defense but was unable to convert, and substitute Callum Hudson-Odoi squandered a late opportunity.
Forest's latest draw leaves the club with just one Premier League win since Glasner’s appointment in the summer and currently positioned 16th in the table, surviving outside the relegation zone only on goal difference. The result underlined ongoing struggles for the team as they seek to improve their form.
