Prince Faisal bin Bandar, governor of Riyadh, is set to inaugurate the seventh International Conference on Disability and Rehabilitation, scheduled to take place from October 11 to 13. The conference, held under the theme “Boldness Towards the Future,” is organized by the King Salman Center for Disability Research and chaired by Prince Sultan bin Salman, special adviser to King Salman and the center’s chairman.
The event will bring together scientists, researchers, and innovators from across the globe to discuss recent scientific discoveries and emerging technologies aimed at restoring lost abilities and improving vision, hearing, and mobility for individuals with disabilities. Emphasis will be placed on translating these scientific advances into practical applications that enhance the daily lives of people with disabilities and their families.
A key highlight of the conference will be the presentation of the King Salman International Award for Disability Research. This year’s award attracted 770 nominations from 111 countries, reflecting widespread global engagement in the field. Additionally, the conference will host its first-ever artificial intelligence hackathon, focusing on the development of innovative projects to support disability research and rehabilitation.
Beyond the scientific program, the conference will feature community activities including evening events and interactive workshops. These sessions will involve specialists and influencers who will address broader issues affecting people with disabilities and their families, while also working to raise public awareness about disability-related challenges and opportunities.
The King Salman Center for Disability Research will use the platform to showcase its ongoing scientific contributions, supported by its founders, partners, and the wider Saudi society. The center’s initiatives are aimed at creating solutions that restore functions and enable people with disabilities to achieve greater independence and participate more fully in societal life.
Overall, the conference seeks to highlight significant advances in disability research while fostering collaboration and innovation that can lead to tangible improvements in rehabilitation and quality of life worldwide.
