An 11-year-old boy died after a go-kart accident in Darien, New York, on September 6. Parker Mitchell was driving a go-kart with his 8-year-old sister, Teagan, when the vehicle flipped into a nearby pond at approximately 2:30 p.m. The kart landed on top of Parker, trapping him underwater.

Emergency responders arrived at the scene and pulled Parker from the pond. He was transported to Strong Memorial Hospital, where he later died. The incident occurred just days before Parker was scheduled to begin middle school.

Teagan, who managed to escape the overturned kart, was treated at the scene and subsequently returned to her family. Authorities confirmed no serious injuries were reported for her.

Parker, a resident of Greece, New York, was actively involved in youth sports, including football and baseball. His family described him as having a “curious spirit and a wonderful sense of adventure” and recalled his talent for making others feel welcome. He was remembered fondly for his close relationships with friends and relatives.
