Wolves forward Jordan James has expressed optimism about helping his new club secure promotion from the Championship this season. The 22-year-old Welsh international joined Wolves on a season-long loan from French side Rennes and aims to contribute to a successful campaign under manager Cesar Peixoto.
James arrives at Molineux following a challenging period with Leicester City, where he endured back-to-back relegations culminating in a drop to League One in May. Despite Leicester’s struggles, James stood out by scoring 11 goals during an injury-affected loan spell at the club, bolstering his reputation in the second tier.
Wolves hold an option to make James’s transfer permanent at the end of the season, a prospect the forward is eager to justify with strong performances. The team is currently seeking their first league victory of the campaign, having drawn 2-2 at home against Blackburn Rovers, and will face Preston North End in their upcoming fixture.
Having begun his professional career at Birmingham City, James highlighted his belief in Wolves as a club with Premier League potential. He emphasized the squad’s quality and ambition, stating that both the club and his own development could benefit from a successful year. “This has always been somewhere that I’ve thought is a Premier League club,” he said. “We’ve got enough talent and enough quality in this team to really do something special and that’s why I’ve come here.”
Reflecting on his experience with Leicester’s dramatic decline, James acknowledged the lessons learned from their downfall. He noted the physical and mental demands of the Championship and urged caution for clubs aiming to compete at that level. “The whole football world was baffled with what happened at Leicester but it taught me a lot in the sense you can’t just expect to win games,” he commented. “I’m still young so I’m still learning my trade, but I’ve played a lot of games in the Championship so I know what it’s like. There’s a lot of games, and physically it’s really demanding.”
Meanwhile, Preston North End face uncertainty over the future of key forward Milutin Osmajic, who is reportedly attracting interest from several Italian clubs. Manager Paul Heckingbottom confirmed that discussions have taken place but emphasized the club’s current need to bolster their squad. “Milutin’s in the last year of his contract but right now we’re really low on numbers so we need to get them in before we get them out,” Heckingbottom said.
