Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay inaugurated the Thai Maaman Gold Ring Scheme on Tuesday at Government Rajaji Hospital in Madurai, distributing one-gram gold rings to newborns as part of the new government initiative. The program aims to provide a gold ring to babies born in government hospitals across the state.

During the event, CM Vijay personally placed gold rings on the fingers of three infants on stage before meeting with additional families in the hospital auditorium. He engaged warmly with the parents, accepting requests to participate in the traditional naming ceremony by repeating each child’s name three times. The Chief Minister also held several babies, posed for photographs, and shook hands with mothers attending the event.

Following the staged distribution, he visited the hospital’s Integrated Child Development Ward, where he presented rings to ten more newborns in the presence of medical staff. The occasion featured light interactions between the Chief Minister, attending doctors, and the families, emphasizing the government’s commitment to maternal and child welfare.

CM Vijay’s visit to Madurai began with his arrival at the local airport around 11 a.m., where a large crowd of party supporters awaited him. As his convoy proceeded to Rajaji Hospital, residents and party cadres gathered along the route, greeting him with cheers and floral tributes at key junctions.

The gold ring scheme represents a flagship welfare measure aimed at supporting families of newborns in Tamil Nadu, reinforcing government efforts to promote institutional deliveries and maternal health services within public healthcare facilities. Rajaji Hospital served as the central venue for launching the program, which is expected to extend to other state-run hospitals in the coming weeks.
