Goodie Two Shoes secured victory in the Group 2 Qatar Lillie Langtry Stakes at Goodwood on Saturday, extending trainer Joseph O’Brien’s strong form at the meeting. The mare, owned by JP McManus and ridden by Dylan Browne McMonagle, delivered a determined performance over the course of the event.

Throughout the race, Goodie Two Shoes remained prominently positioned, tracking the early leader Santorini Star, who was sent to the front by Tom Marquand at odds of 4/1. Approaching the final stages, the leading pair experienced a moment of restricted racing room, which opened an opportunity for last year’s winner, Waardah—the 9/4 favorite—to challenge for the lead. Waardah was unable to fully capitalize, but Goodie Two Shoes responded swiftly once a clear path appeared, overtaking Santorini Star and clinching victory by a narrow margin of a nose. Waardah finished in third place.

Browne McMonagle praised Goodie Two Shoes’s progress and tenacity following the race. “She wanted to win. She’s a lovely filly and is improving all of the time,” he said. “She’s got better with each run. I was quietly confident today as she ran well in this last year.” The jockey also expressed gratitude to owner JP McManus for the opportunity to compete in such “special silks” and indicated that the Melbourne Cup at Flemington remains the team’s primary target later this year.

Goodie Two Shoes is currently priced at approximately 20-1 to improve on her previous runner-up finish in the Melbourne Cup in November, reinforcing her status as a notable contender for the prestigious Australian race.
