Alphabet Inc.’s Google is seeking to acquire internal business data from Spirit Airlines as part of the airline’s ongoing bankruptcy proceedings. The proposed sale, valued at $10 million, includes a range of Spirit’s corporate information, such as employee emails, Microsoft Teams messages, spreadsheets, calendars, and various marketing, productivity, and operational datasets. Google intends to use the data to support product development and to train its artificial intelligence models.

The data in the package will be de-identified prior to the completion of the sale, ensuring that it contains no customer information or other personally identifiable details, according to the parties involved. The transaction is pending approval from a U.S. bankruptcy judge, who is scheduled to review the sale during a court hearing on Wednesday.

Spirit Airlines, which ceased operations in May, filed for bankruptcy amid mounting debt and soaring fuel costs. The company is currently in the process of liquidating assets to satisfy creditors. Google’s bid is competing with a $7.5 million offer from Mercor, a company specializing in AI data services.

The bankruptcy court’s decision will determine the outcome of the bids as Spirit seeks to maximize the value of its remaining assets in the restructuring process.
