LOS ANGELES — Google is expanding its presence in Hollywood through a new venture aimed at reshaping the entertainment industry’s often skeptical view of technology. The initiative, called 100 Zeeros, is a collaboration between Google and Range Media Partners designed to integrate Google’s technological innovations into storytelling, while fostering relationships with creative talent.

At the heart of 100 Zeeros is a slate of microdramas tailored for mobile viewing, which will debut on the Google TV streaming app starting this December. These short, episodic series are crafted to showcase emerging technology, including artificial intelligence-driven production tools developed by Google. The project aims to offer a fresh narrative perspective where technology, rather than being a source of impending disaster, serves as a means of connection and comfort.

One early example is the short film "Sweetwater," starring Kyra Sedgwick. The film features Sedgwick as a holographic AI recreation of a deceased movie star, who appears to her grieving son. Google worked with AI researchers to ensure the depiction of the digital ghost was scientifically plausible, reflecting an effort to ground the technology in credible terms.

Beyond the artistic ambitions, 100 Zeeros represents Google’s strategic move to forge deeper ties with Hollywood’s creative community. By partnering with established producers and actors, the company hopes to influence the portrayal of technology in popular media and explore new forms of entertainment that blend storytelling and tech innovation.

Among the projects is “Deathtale,” a 30-episode reality series created by Mike Fleiss, known for "The Bachelor." The show follows a woman’s quest to find love before her 30th birthday, as she documents her journey using various Google-enabled tools. This approach not only integrates Google’s technology into the narrative structure but also serves as a testing ground for novel production techniques.

The 100 Zeeros initiative operates independently from Google’s YouTube platform, signaling a distinct effort to engage with traditional Hollywood formats and creators. As Silicon Valley companies increasingly seek to influence entertainment content, Google’s venture underscores a shift toward collaboration, blending technology development with creative storytelling to challenge prevailing narratives about AI and digital innovation.
