At Woodland Park Zoo in Seattle, a notable example of maternal care has been observed among the resident western lowland gorillas. Jamani, an experienced female gorilla, has been caring for the infant of another troop member, Olympia, following an unusual circumstance surrounding the births.

Jamani gave birth naturally to her own son, while Olympia faced complications during labor and required an emergency Cesarean section. During Olympia’s recovery period, Jamani accepted the other infant and has been nurturing both newborns simultaneously.
