Gosport Borough ended Bath City’s five-game winning streak with a 2-1 victory in a closely contested match on Saturday. Despite entering the game without a permanent manager, Gosport showed resilience to overturn an early deficit at their home ground.
Bath City began the match strongly, applying early pressure with attempts from Reuben Reid and Enzio Boldewijn testing Gosport’s goalkeeper James Holden. The visitors thought they had taken the lead through George Penn, but the goal was disallowed for offside. Bath City continued to press, and in the 22nd minute Matt Bowman headed in a Boldewijn free-kick to give the Romans the advantage.
The first half saw another Bath goal ruled out for offside, this time for Billy Bodin, son of former Bath City player Paul Bodin. However, Ghana forward Bodin eventually found his mark after halftime. Mauro Vilhete’s initial effort was saved by Gosport defender Harvey Wiles-Richards, but Michael Fernandes delivered a precise cross to the back post that Bodin converted with a well-placed header.
The late goal lifted Gosport’s spirits and proved decisive in securing the win, effectively halting Bath City’s momentum and ending their winning run. The result marks a notable achievement for Gosport Borough, who managed to overcome their recent managerial uncertainties to claim a valuable three points. Bath City, meanwhile, will look to regroup and build on their early-season form following the setback.
