Chris Gotterup rallied from a five-shot deficit with a 9-under 62 on Sunday to claim the John Deere Classic, marking his fourth PGA Tour victory in the past year. The tournament concluded at TPC Deere Run, where Gotterup finished at 20-under-par 264, securing the win without needing a playoff.

Ben Kohles, seeking his first PGA Tour title in his 120th start, faltered on the final hole. His approach shot to the 18th green veered left into the water, resulting in a double bogey and handing the victory to Gotterup. Kohles carded a 68 on the final day but was unable to overcome the late surge.

Gotterup’s performance extended his impressive streak on the PGA Tour. A year ago, he won the Scottish Open by holding off Rory McIlroy, a victory that helped launch his rise into the world’s top 10 golfers. Earlier this year, he also secured titles at the Sony Open and the Phoenix Open. He is set to defend the Scottish Open crown next week, continuing his schedule despite the upcoming British Open being held the same week.

Notably, Gotterup’s brother, Patrick, served as his caddie during the tournament. Gotterup became emotional on the practice range following his win, highlighting the significance of his brother’s presence. Gotterup first entered the John Deere Classic in 2022 on a sponsor exemption after concluding his college career at Oklahoma, and he has maintained a strong affinity for the event since then. “I really like this tournament,” Gotterup said, reflecting on his decision to compete despite defending a title overseas.

For Kohles, the outcome was a painful repeat of a near miss. Two years prior, he fell short at the Byron Nelson after making a bogey on the final hole and losing in a playoff. Sunday's result marks another missed opportunity but underscores the persistence he has shown throughout his career.

Gotterup’s victory advances him to No. 7 in the Official World Golf Ranking and solidifies his status as one of the leading players on the tour over the past year.
