KUWAIT CITY — Kuwait’s Minister of Education, Jalal Al-Tabtabaei, emphasized the critical role of governance and institutional evaluation in advancing educational reform during a workshop held on Monday. The Ministry of Education conducted the online event in partnership with the UNESCO Regional Center for Quality and Excellence in Education, bringing together education officials from across the Arab region.
The workshop, titled “Governance of General Education Evaluation Institutions in Arab Countries: A Forward-Looking Perspective,” aimed to enhance cooperation among Arab nations in governance practices related to education evaluation and to elevate the overall quality of education systems. It provided a platform to discuss challenges and best practices in managing evaluation institutions, focusing on accountability, transparency, and the reliability of assessments.
Al-Tabtabaei underscored the importance of moving beyond simply tallying programs and initiatives in the education sector. Instead, he said that success should be measured by the ability of institutions to deliver measurable outcomes using dependable indicators. He stressed that effective governance requires clearly assigned responsibilities, independent and objective evaluations, and transparent procedures that ensure fairness and credibility of results.
The minister described the workshop as a valuable academic and professional forum that would contribute to more informed and data-driven policy making within the education sector. He highlighted that strong governance in evaluation institutions is vital for driving reforms that improve student learning outcomes, teacher performance, and the overall effectiveness of schools.
Additionally, Al-Tabtabaei noted that evaluation should serve as a continuous improvement tool rather than an end goal. The insights gained from evaluations should guide practical reforms and policy adjustments that translate into improved educational experiences at all levels.
The initiative reflects Kuwait’s commitment to strengthening its education system through regional collaboration and the adoption of international standards. By fostering the exchange of expertise among Arab countries, the workshop aimed to support sustained advancements in education policies and practices across the region.
