Malaysian authorities have announced a review of the drama series *Madu atau Racun* following public concern over its content, which some view as potentially offensive to religious and cultural norms. Senator Dr. Zulkifli Hasan, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department for Religious Affairs, stated that the review will determine whether the show breaches legal or regulatory guidelines and appropriate action will be taken if necessary.

The review will involve the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (JAKIM), which will assess the drama based on the Guidelines for Content Screening of Islamic-Themed Broadcasting Materials. Dr. Zulkifli emphasized the importance of ensuring that all broadcast content upholds the sanctity of Islam and respects local cultural values. He expressed regret that *Madu atau Racun* included elements deemed contrary to Islamic teachings and Eastern values, emphasizing the need to protect communal morals, especially among younger viewers.

“The arts industry and media platforms should be used to instill virtuous values, rather than spark controversies that undermine societal harmony,” Dr. Zulkifli said, urging producers, broadcasters, and creative professionals to exercise responsibility in their work to contribute positively to nation-building.

MIG Production House, the company behind the drama, issued a public apology acknowledging that certain scenes were inappropriate and sensitive in relation to religious and social issues. The company stated that it did not intend to offend or belittle any group and expressed regret over the controversy generated by the show’s content.

The matter has sparked a broader conversation about the balance between creative expression and respect for religious and cultural sensitivities in Malaysian media, highlighting the ongoing challenges faced by content creators in a diverse society.
