Grant Taylor delivered a strong performance for the Chicago White Sox on Saturday, showcasing a revitalized fastball that reached speeds up to 98 mph. The right-handed pitcher needed just 19 pitches to record four strikeouts over two scoreless innings against the Kansas City Royals, helping to halt a recent streak of less effective outings.
White Sox pitching coach Zach Bove praised Taylor's sharpness, describing his pitches as “very crispy” and calling the appearance “pretty electric.” Bove noted that Taylor himself considered the outing one of his best this season. Prior to Saturday’s game, Taylor had allowed at least one run in each of his previous five appearances.
A key adjustment to the positioning of his back foot in his delivery appeared to contribute to Taylor’s improved control and effectiveness on the mound. The change helped Taylor regain the command that initially made him a standout in the bullpen this year.
Now in his second major league season, Taylor has attracted All-Star consideration by compiling a 3-1 record with a 2.83 ERA through 31 games. He has struck out 60 batters over 40⅓ innings pitched. Reflecting on his development, Taylor emphasized his focus on constant improvement and learning how to better challenge major league hitters.
“Trying to learn more about how to get big-league hitters out, and then get better and better at it every day,” Taylor said, underlining his commitment to refining his skills.
The White Sox view Taylor’s recent success as a timely boost during a stretch when reliable relief pitching remains crucial to the team's efforts. His performance Saturday demonstrated a return to form that could prove important as the team navigates the remainder of the season.
