Justin Greaves delivered a remarkable bowling performance as the West Indies secured a 90-run victory over Pakistan in the first Test of their two-match series at the Queen’s Park Oval in Trinidad. The win gives the West Indies a 1-0 lead heading into the second Test.

Following a strong start by Pakistan, which saw Shan Masood score 109 and Imam-ul-Haq contribute 63 to reach 244 for three in their first innings chase of the West Indies’ 311, Greaves dramatically shifted the momentum. He produced an unprecedented sequence by taking five wickets without conceding a run across five consecutive maiden overs, a feat never before recorded in Test cricket. Greaves finished with figures of 5 for 27, securing a crucial 29-run lead for the hosts.

“When I came on, captain Roston Chase just said to continue to be disciplined,” Greaves said after the match. “The ball nipped around and I got some reward.”

Earlier in the match, Shai Hope led the West Indies with a determined 92 and Kavem Hodge contributed a valuable 84. Pakistan’s bowlers Mohammad Ali and Mohammad Abbas responded strongly, collectively claiming seven wickets. Abbas’s five-wicket haul (5 for 22) helped dismiss the West Indies for 181 in their second innings, setting Pakistan a target of 211 to win.

Pakistan’s second innings began poorly as Jayden Seales inflicted early damage, taking 5 wickets for 20 runs and reducing the visitors to 71 for nine. Babar Azam provided some resistance, remaining unbeaten on 58 and sharing a 49-run partnership with Abbas for the last wicket, but Pakistan were ultimately bowled out for 120.

Greaves added two more wickets in the second innings to close with match figures of seven wickets and was named player of the match for his pivotal role.

West Indies captain Roston Chase dedicated the victory to the late Sir Garfield Sobers, marking what would have been the cricket legend’s 90th birthday. In a poetic coincidence, the margin of victory was exactly 90 runs.
