The Green Party has withdrawn plans for a training session initially described as exclusive to Muslim participants following concerns about potential discrimination. The session, titled “Training: Be a (Muslim) Councillor,” was included in an online programme guide for the party’s upcoming conference in Brighton.

Critics argued that restricting the training to Muslims only could violate the Equality Act 2010, which prohibits discrimination on the basis of religion. Emma Schubart of the Henry Jackson Society filed a complaint with the Equality and Human Rights Commission, noting that no comparable training targeted at candidates of other faiths was advertised.

In response, Green Party officials stated that the listing was a draft error and emphasized that the session will now be open to all attendees regardless of religious affiliation. The revised event information will reflect this change, according to party sources. The training aims to support aspiring councillors but will no longer exclude participants based on their faith.
