Greg Jackson, founder and CEO of Octopus Energy, has established the company as the United Kingdom’s largest energy supplier, largely through its focus on renewable sources and innovative pricing models. Jackson, who developed an early interest in climate issues and was a member of Greenpeace at age 16, launched Octopus Energy in 2016 with the goal of making renewable energy both accessible and consumer-friendly.

Octopus Energy derives a significant share of its electricity from wind and solar power, leveraging a technology platform designed to encourage customers to use energy when it is generated from renewables and is most cost-effective. This dynamic pricing approach has been a key factor in the company’s growth and reputation for innovation in the energy sector.

In 2024, Jackson was honoured with an Order of the British Empire (OBE) for his contributions to the energy industry. Under his leadership, Octopus has expanded its reach beyond the UK market over the past year, investing in renewable projects abroad. These include new ventures in California and Italy, as well as the acquisition of up to 17 onshore wind farms across France, Germany, and Poland.
