The event, scheduled for August 1, features some of the United Kingdom’s most competitive racers across multiple categories.
Sean Parker’s Droopys Flare, a leading stayer from Sheffield, enters the Coral Regency Final over 695 meters as the strong favorite for the £10,000 prize. The greyhound has demonstrated dominance throughout the competition, securing victories in both the heats and semi-finals. While the race will demand careful navigation of early pace battles on both inside and outside runs, Droopys Flare’s versatility and proven trackcraft give her a strong chance to claim the Category One title that has so far eluded her.
Meanwhile, the Coral Sussex Cup Final, contested over 515 meters, is expected to be a more open race. Paul Young’s Copney Queen, representing Romford, holds a slight advantage with her early gate speed potentially allowing her to secure a favorable position around the turn. She faces a challenging field that includes five Hove-trained entrants. Notable contenders include Blackstone Opera, winner of the Brighton Belle, and Raebella Bullet, third in the Oaks, both of whom are well-placed to capitalize on any mistakes during the race.
In sprint action, Richard Rees’s Shadow Storm aims to defend his title in the Coral Sussex Cup Sprint Trophy Final over 285 meters. The GBGB Sprinter of the Year will seek to overturn previous heat results against Slaneyside Swade with a quicker break from the traps. Similarly, Patrick Janssens’s Romeo Tomcat remains a strong contender in the Coral 500 Standard Trophy Final following a solid performance in the recent heats.
Other notable participants at Hove include Paul Young’s Gav Nificent, winner at Dunstall; Tony Dean’s improving Bubbly Hogan; and Belinda Green’s Teddie, who impressed in the Regency heats and has the ability to lead the race from the front.
In addition to the action at Hove, Monmore offers a competitive card as it gears up for the upcoming Ladbrokes Gold Cup and Ladbrokes Summer Stayers Classic. Standouts at Monmore include Nathan Hunt’s Goldcash Warrior, a runner-up in the 3 Steps event; Craig Morris’s Nightingale Crew; Monmore specialist Headford Dane; and Mark Wallis’s reigning Summer Stayers Classic champion Vhagar.
Mark Moisley, commercial director of the Greyhound Board of Great Britain (GBGB), recently expressed gratitude to Dunstall Park for hosting the “100 Years On Track” centenary gala. The six-race meeting replicated the first official greyhound racing event under rules held in 1926. Moisley praised the combination of a passionate crowd and high-quality racing, highlighting the ongoing appeal and tradition of the sport.
