Greyhound Racing New South Wales (GRNSW) has renewed its support for the Mark Hughes Foundation (MHF) with the launch of the Red and Blue All November Through campaign, set to begin Sunday. The initiative aims to raise funds for brain cancer research throughout November by linking donations to victories by greyhounds wearing special red or blue racing rugs.
Under the campaign, GRNSW will contribute $161 to the MHF for each race won in New South Wales by a greyhound sporting the red or blue rug. The colours pay tribute to the Newcastle Knights, the 2026 NRL grand finalists, while the donation amount—161—represents the number of NRL games played by Mark Hughes with the club during his career. Hughes was diagnosed with brain cancer in 2013, and last year’s campaign raised $50,000 for the foundation.
To further support the cause, GRNSW will host a fundraising dinner at The Gardens on Saturday, November 28. The event will feature special guests including Knights legend Danny Buderus, current player Fletcher Sharpe, and veteran broadcaster Ray Hadley. Attendees will have the opportunity to enter a raffle, with the grand prize being a trip for two to Las Vegas for the opening round of the NRL season, valued at $11,000. Additional raffle prizes include two corporate hospitality tickets to an NRL game in Sydney during the 2027 season.
The partnership between GRNSW and the Mark Hughes Foundation received a significant boost recently during the farewell greyhound racing meeting at Wentworth Park, a historic venue in the sport. A memorabilia auction held at the event raised $35,000 for the foundation, highlighted by a $16,500 bid from well-known trainer Andy Lord for the winning post.
Tickets for the MHF fundraising dinner are available for purchase online. GRNSW’s ongoing collaboration with the Mark Hughes Foundation underscores the greyhound racing industry’s commitment to supporting brain cancer research and raising awareness through community engagement.
