Human remains were discovered in the Goulburn River near Ghin Ghin in northern Victoria, leading authorities to believe the body may be that of a man who has been missing for over a month. Water Police responded to the scene off Ghin Ghin Road following the discovery.
The remains are suspected to belong to Shane Wilson, 53, who was last seen July 18 when he headed to his preferred fishing spot on the Goulburn River. His family had not heard from him since that day, prompting an extensive search.
The operation involved Water Police, the State Emergency Service (SES), police divers, search and rescue teams, and the use of drones. Among the items located during the search were Mr. Wilson’s kayak and paddle, but he was not found at the time.
Victoria Police stated that the death is not being treated as suspicious, and investigations are ongoing to confirm the identity and the circumstances surrounding the discovery.
