Malaysian singer Priscilla Abby has reflected on her decade-long music career and the close family ties that have supported her journey. Now 29, Priscilla credits her mother as her closest companion, describing their relationship as more akin to best friends than the traditional mother-daughter dynamic. Raised in a household that encouraged her passions rather than insisting on conventional career choices, Priscilla was able to pursue music with full parental support.
Priscilla, whose full name is Priscilla Abby Chai, grew up in Kuching and experienced the loss of her father at a young age. Despite early setbacks, including unsuccessful applications to study abroad after completing her SPM, she remained committed to her dream of working in the entertainment industry. A significant turning point came in July 2016 when a music producer from her church invited her to lead a project involving electronic dance music covers of popular songs. Her rendition of Eric Chou’s "How Have You Been" amassed over 4.5 million views online, and her subsequent cover of Escape Plan’s "The Brightest Star In The Night Sky" has garnered more than 13.4 million views.
After signing with digital media company WebTV Asia in 2017, Priscilla released her debut EP, Burn, and held her first solo concert in Kuala Lumpur later that year. Over time, she built a repertoire of original songs alongside covers, with releases such as "Our Times," "I Love The Sky," and "Fight For My Life." Despite challenges in the competitive industry, including periods of self-doubt, she credits support from close friends, family, and fans for sustaining her career.
The Covid-19 pandemic notably affected Priscilla’s ability to connect with loved ones, amplifying feelings of isolation despite her generally independent nature. This period also saw a decrease in her musical output, which in turn impacted her confidence as an artist. However, encouragement from friends reframing this time as a "season of planting" helped her regain momentum.
In 2026, Priscilla faced another milestone by participating in Astro’s reality singing competition, Singer 2026 Malaysia. While initially apprehensive due to her background in social media rather than traditional singing contests, she embraced the opportunity as a chance to learn and grow. She finished in fifth place, with Jaclyn Victor winning the competition. Priscilla found value in the experience, citing new friendships and insights gained from vocal coaches.
Alongside her competitive appearance, Priscilla released a new single, "Feng Zi," in July and indicated that more music is forthcoming. Looking ahead, she plans to celebrate her 10-year career with a solo concert titled Priscilla Abby 19+ Malaysia Concert 2026, scheduled for December 5 at the Arena of Stars in Resorts World Genting. Tickets for the event are now available, with prices ranging from RM188 to RM488.
