Preparations are underway for the return of Guilfest, one of the United Kingdom’s longstanding independent music festivals, set to take place this weekend in Guildford, Surrey. Established more than 20 years ago by Tony Scott, the festival has endured numerous challenges over the years, including entering liquidation twice, yet has continued under Scott’s stewardship.

The two-day event, scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, will feature performances across seven music stages. The lineup includes a diverse mix of acts such as Sophie Ellis-Bextor, The Proclaimers, Kula Shaker, ABC, Haircut 100, Heather Small, T’Pau, and Inspiral Carpets.

In addition to live music, Guilfest will host a literary tent offering an interview with Blur’s drummer Dave Rowntree, providing a platform for discussion beyond the performances. The festival is also incorporating family-friendly elements, including a dedicated area designed to entertain children, reflecting its commitment to creating an inclusive experience for attendees of all ages.

As one of the few remaining independently run music festivals in the UK, Guilfest’s revival this year marks a significant moment for its organizers and fans alike. The event’s continuation highlights the resilience and community support that have helped sustain it through financial difficulties and evolving festival landscapes over the past two decades.
