Gulf Bank has secured Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Platinum certification for its branch in Sabah Al-Ahmad Residential City, underscoring the institution’s ongoing commitment to environmental sustainability and responsible banking practices.
The LEED Platinum certification, awarded by the US Green Building Council (USGBC) and Green Business Certification Inc. (GBCI), is the highest honor within a global green building rating system. It recognizes buildings that meet stringent standards across various environmental performance categories, including energy and water efficiency, indoor environmental quality, sustainable material use, and responsible facility management.
This achievement aligns with Gulf Bank’s Sustainability Strategy 2030, which integrates environmental, social, and governance (ESG) criteria into its core operations. The strategy aims to enhance resource efficiency, reduce the bank’s environmental impact, and contribute to Kuwait’s broader sustainable development goals in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Khaled Abdulwahab Al Awadhi, Deputy General Manager of Facilities Management at Gulf Bank, described the certification as a significant milestone. He emphasized that sustainability is embedded into the bank’s operational philosophy and long-term planning, extending beyond short-term initiatives. Al Awadhi highlighted the importance of adopting internationally recognized facility management practices while fostering efficient and comfortable environments for customers and staff.
The bank continues to invest in modern technologies designed to improve energy and water use across its facilities, further supporting the objectives of its sustainability strategy. Gulf Bank is also implementing a comprehensive modernization plan across its branch network, focusing on environmental best practices alongside enhanced customer and employee experiences.
In addition to upgrades at its branches, Gulf Bank is undertaking improvements to its headquarters, a notable historic building in Kuwait. These steps seek to preserve its architectural heritage while advancing the building’s operational and environmental performance in accordance with global sustainability standards.
Al Awadhi noted that these facility enhancements represent an ongoing commitment to sustainable growth and environmental stewardship. The bank intends to expand green building practices throughout its operations, reinforcing its position as a responsible financial institution and contributing to Kuwait’s sustainable future.
With sustainability increasingly integrated into its business model, Gulf Bank aims to provide banking environments that are both resource-efficient and responsive to the needs of its stakeholders and the wider community.
