Clint Gutherson is approaching a significant milestone in his rugby league career, with just three games remaining before he reaches 250 NRL appearances. The 31-year-old fullback, currently playing for the St. George Illawarra Dragons, has been widely regarded as one of the most competitive players in the league. Despite ongoing speculation about his physical condition and longevity in the sport, Gutherson remains confident about his ability to continue competing at a high level.

Throughout his career, Gutherson has faced repeated questions regarding his fitness, particularly about his knees. These concerns have frequently surfaced during contract negotiations, especially in his earlier years with the Parramatta Eels. However, Gutherson has brushed off calls to retire, noting that such suggestions have followed him for more than 15 years. "When that time comes, I’m sure someone close to me will tell me, but I’ve got a lot of kilometres left," he said.

This season, Gutherson has been managing a hamstring injury that sidelined him for four weeks. He has occasionally missed training sessions to preserve his fitness for matches and has made 11 appearances so far in the current campaign. His upcoming game against the Wests Tigers at Jubilee Oval will be his twelfth for the season. When asked if he felt physically prepared to endure another full year in the NRL, Gutherson responded simply, "Easy."

Gutherson’s role at the Dragons may evolve as the club prepares for the 2027 season. With the recent signing of Scott Drinkwater, a fullback from the North Queensland Cowboys, tension arises over who will secure the starting fullback position. Despite this, Gutherson reached out to Drinkwater during contract negotiations, encouraging him to join the Dragons.
