Erling Haaland has been withdrawn from media duties with Norway ahead of the team's Nations League match against Portugal, following Manchester City’s recent ruling by the Premier League for alleged regulatory breaches.

Haaland, who is currently with the Norwegian national team during the international break, played a key role in Norway’s 3-2 victory over Denmark on Thursday, scoring two goals. Despite his on-field involvement, he did not participate in the pre-match press conference as initially expected. Instead, Benfica players Andreas Schjelderup and Fredrik Aursnes represented Norway during the media session.

Norway’s media manager Morten Skjonsberg communicated that Haaland would not be available for interviews ahead of the Portugal fixture. According to Skjonsberg, changes had been made to the usual press conference format, with national team coach Stale Solbakken, along with Schjelderup and Aursnes, handling media obligations instead.

The decision to exclude Haaland from media interactions comes in the context of Manchester City being found guilty of Premier League rule violations. While specific details of the breaches have not been outlined in relation to Haaland, the club’s issue has evidently influenced his media role with Norway.

Haaland previously addressed the matter in a July 2023 interview with TIME Magazine, expressing confidence in City’s management and their handling of the case. He emphasized his limited involvement, stating that he had spoken with club officials who reassured him about the situation’s resolution.

The striker remarked at the time that the circumstances were complex and that he trusted the club would resolve the issue appropriately. Since then, the evolving situation at City appears to have had an impact on Haaland’s media participation while representing Norway.
