Craig Sibbald has returned to Falkirk, aiming to make an impact as the club undergoes one of its most significant summer rebuilds in recent years. The midfielder signed a pre-contract agreement in March to rejoin the team, marking 15 years since his debut for the club. His career has included spells at Livingston and Dundee United, but Sibbald is now back at the club where he began his journey.
The revival of Falkirk’s youth academy, which had been previously shelved, has created a renewed sense of optimism. Sibbald, a local player, has noticed the positive atmosphere since his return, both among supporters and within the squad. Reflecting on his debut at age 16, he expressed pride at being featured alongside other academy graduates on a commemorative wall at the club’s facilities. The midfielder emphasized the value of nurturing young talent and looks forward to contributing his experience to assist developing players.
Falkirk’s current squad is undergoing major changes, with several players departing and new signings arriving. Among departures are striker Barney Stewart, sold to West Bromwich Albion for a seven-figure sum, and winger Calvin Miller, who moved to Hearts after leading the Premiership in assists last season. In response, eight new players have been brought in, with more expected. Sibbald acknowledged the need for those remaining to step up and maintain the club’s attacking threat.
Since rejoining, Sibbald has also been adapting to the coaching style of Falkirk manager John McGlynn, under whom he is working for the first time. The midfielder highlighted McGlynn’s attention to detail and rigorous training methods, expressing enthusiasm about the potential for growth under his guidance. A recent training stint in Portugal provided an opportunity to familiarize himself with the manager’s approach ahead of the new season.
Sibbald played a role in facilitating the transfer of former Livingston teammate Jack McMillan from Exeter City to Falkirk, hoping the familiarity will benefit the squad. He described the team environment as welcoming, with strong camaraderie helping new players settle in quickly.
As the season approaches, Sibbald is focused on performing consistently to make the supporters proud. He emphasized the importance of hard work and commitment on the pitch, reflecting his determination to contribute meaningfully to Falkirk’s future success.
