The Oman Haj Mission has introduced a range of new measures aimed at improving the pilgrimage experience for Omani nationals during the 1447 AH Haj season. The announcements were made by Ahmed bin Saleh al Rashdi, Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Awqaf and Religious Affairs and Head of the Oman Haj Mission, during a recent meeting with Haj operators in Muscat.

Key logistical changes include an updated transportation system to ease travel between Oman and Saudi Arabia’s holy sites. Omani buses will transport pilgrims to two principal transfer points where licensed Saudi buses will assume responsibility for the journey to Mecca and surrounding areas. Al Rashdi noted that this arrangement is designed to reduce both logistical complications and costs for Haj operators.

A new intelligent bus tracking system has been implemented to provide real-time location updates, enhancing safety and allowing authorities to respond promptly in emergencies. Camp facilities at Mina have also been upgraded, featuring improved tent roofs for better airflow, enhanced flooring to facilitate movement, improved lighting, and refurbished amenities.

The mission’s collaboration with local airports and airlines has resulted in lower airfares for pilgrims. Taif Airport has been added as a new entry point, and departures via Suhar Airport are now available, offering greater convenience. Reflecting these changes, the number of pilgrims traveling overland decreased from 5,122 last year to 3,034 this season, indicating a more streamlined transportation approach.

To better serve pilgrims while on-site, the mission has opened a new headquarters in the Al Naseem area close to the holy sites. The facility is equipped with modern infrastructure to support administrative and logistical functions. Additionally, 17 Omani doctors have been authorized to accompany pilgrims under the supervision of the mission’s medical team, ensuring prompt access to healthcare services during the pilgrimage.

Al Rashdi stressed that these initiatives underscore the mission’s commitment to addressing logistical challenges and enhancing the overall safety, comfort, and convenience for Omani pilgrims undertaking the Haj this year.
