Halesowen secured a convincing victory over Evesham Town in their latest match following the recent departure of manager Russ Penn. The win, which propelled Halesowen into the second round, came just days after Penn left the club in the wake of a heavy midweek defeat against Racing Club Warwick.
The match took place under challenging weather conditions, with a strong wind favoring the visitors. Halesowen began assertively, creating early scoring opportunities including a curling cross from Samson Hewett that struck the far post. Evesham Town showed limited threat in the first half, with midfielder Todd Parker missing a chance and Aaron Heap’s effort being comfortably saved by Halesowen goalkeeper Dan Platt. Their most promising moment came in the 37th minute when defender Ioan Richards nearly converted a corner kick.
However, Halesowen took control in a decisive two-minute period just before halftime. Jason Cowley opened the scoring by driving a shot past the near post from a set-piece situation, and shortly afterward, Milan Butterfield extended the lead with a long-range strike from 25 yards.
After the interval, Evesham Town’s hopes diminished further as Vanylson Silva added two more goals. Silva’s first came from close range with a header six minutes into the second half. He later completed his brace by converting a rebound from a Ben Cassidy cross in the 62nd minute, solidifying Halesowen’s 4-0 advantage.
The result marked a positive end to a difficult week for Halesowen, who now advance confidently in their cup competition despite the recent managerial upheaval. Evesham Town, by contrast, struggled to make an impact and were unable to respond to the visitors’ dominant performance.
