The upcoming Nights of Fright 12 (NOF12) Halloween festival at Sunway Lagoon in Bandar Sunway, Selangor, is set to offer visitors a range of new and immersive horror experiences from September 25 to November 7. This year’s event focuses on an “Ape-ocalypse” theme, featuring a post-apocalyptic world where primates have taken over, creating a chilling scenario where visitors encounter chainsaw-wielding apes hunting humans.
The festival, now in its 12th edition, includes eight haunted houses, a haunted theatre, three scare zones, 11 thrill rides, and a show stage. Alongside the central "Ape-ocalypse" attraction, the event explores various horror genres, incorporating both international and local storytelling styles. Key experiences include “Yokai Road,” “The Freezer: Fresh Meat,” “Little Shop of Horrors: Manga UV 3D,” “The Not-So-Wonderful Wizard of Oz,” “Return to Silent Hill,” “The Romeos and Juliet,” “Scary Tales Theatre: Pontianak vs Pocong,” and “Horrorwood Wax Museum.”
One notable feature is “Little Shop of Horrors: Manga UV 3D,” which offers a reimagined take on the cult horror film through an anime manga aesthetic, enhanced with ultraviolet effects and immersive 3D visuals. Another distinct attraction is “Scary Tales Theatre: Pontianak vs Pocong,” which draws on Malaysian folklore by exploring the origins of these two well-known supernatural figures in local culture.
The festival’s design emphasizes active participation, allowing attendees to be fully immersed in each haunted setting rather than passively observing.
