ATLANTA — Allisha Gray sustained an injury to her left hand during the first quarter of the Atlanta Dream’s 92-82 victory over the New York Liberty on Sunday, affecting her availability for the remainder of the WNBA semifinals.
Gray appeared to hurt the pinky and ring fingers on her shooting hand while contesting a deflected ball early in the game. She briefly left the court and was seen heading to the locker room holding her hand. Later, she returned to the game about eight and a half minutes into the second quarter with her fingers taped.
Despite her return, Gray showed signs of discomfort, notably missing a three-point attempt and subsequently removing the tape mid-game, which she then threw toward the team bench. The extent of her injury and whether she will be able to continue playing in the semifinal series remained uncertain following the game.
The Dream’s win put them ahead in the series, but losing a key player like Gray to injury could impact their performance moving forward. No official update on her condition was available immediately after the match.
