The Oman Handball Super Cup is poised to serve as a key early competitive platform for four clubs ahead of the 2026-27 season, with the tournament draw scheduled for Sunday at 11 a.m. at the Oman Handball Association headquarters within the Oman Olympic Committee and Sports Associations building.

Defending champions Oman Club, Al Amerat, Nizwa, and Seeb will compete in this year’s Super Cup. Oman Club, which secured the title last season as well as in 2017-18 and 2024-25, views the tournament as a crucial part of its preparations for the upcoming Gulf Clubs Championship. The club is undergoing notable changes, including the appointment of Tunisian coach Moez Mahfoudh, and has strengthened its lineup with new foreign player Mohamed Diab.

Oman Club team manager Ahmed al Jassasi emphasized that while defending the Super Cup remains a goal, the primary focus is to utilize the competition as a testing ground for team readiness ahead of the Gulf championship. Al Jassasi noted that the tournament will allow the new coach to evaluate players’ abilities, assess tactical strategies, and further integrate the new signing within the squad dynamic under competitive conditions.

The draw for the first-round fixtures will be held Sunday, with matches commencing on November 8 and the final slated for November 11.

Nizwa enters the Super Cup for the first time, having closed the previous season in fourth place in the league and capturing the Ministry’s Shield. The club considers its inaugural participation a significant development. Nizwa player Abdulaziz al Saifi described the opportunity as a valuable chance to measure the team’s progress against strong opponents and to build experience and confidence ahead of the new handball season. The club began preparing in late September, emphasizing physical conditioning, technical skills, and finalizing foreign player acquisitions.

Al Amerat, as the First Division and Ministry’s Shield champions from last season, and Seeb round out the field of competitors, all aiming for early-season momentum and a chance at silverware.

Historically, Oman Club and Muscat have been the most successful teams in the competition, with Muscat claiming two titles in 2018-19 and 2019-20. This year’s Super Cup will thus offer an early indication of the competitive dynamics and readiness of leading handball clubs in Oman as they embark on a demanding season domestically and in regional contests.
