Hannah Einbinder, the actress known for her role in the series "Hacks," has emphasized the importance of public figures using their platforms to support Palestinians amid the ongoing Israeli military campaign in Gaza. Speaking at The New Yorker Festival in New York on Friday, Einbinder described her advocacy as a fundamental responsibility, highlighting the potential impact celebrities can have on raising awareness and funding for the cause.

“I see it as the bare minimum,” Einbinder said regarding her decision to speak out. She framed the current era as one of profound global crises, citing the threats of artificial intelligence and climate change. Acknowledging the influence she wields, both in terms of audience reach and financial capabilities, she expressed a commitment to leverage that power specifically in support of Palestine.

Einbinder recounted her personal journey toward activism, noting that her involvement began through attending vigils organized by IfNotNow, a Jewish group opposing the Israeli occupation of Palestinian territories. Through this community, she said she engaged in what she described as a process of unlearning systemic propaganda. “I felt like I have to make up for lost time because I was complicit and unconscious in this system for so long,” she explained, adding that her advocacy is rooted in her values and sense of justice.

The actress also paid tribute to Palestinian journalists risking their lives to report from Gaza, singling out Anas Al-Sharif, an Al Jazeera correspondent who was killed in an Israeli airstrike in August 2025. Einbinder contrasted the dangers faced by those documenting the conflict with the comparatively modest risks she takes by speaking out publicly.

Einbinder has previously used high-profile moments to advocate for Palestinian rights. Notably, during the September 2025 Emmy Awards, where she won for outstanding supporting actress in a comedy series, she ended her acceptance speech by calling for a free Palestine. Her continued public statements reflect an ongoing effort to highlight the humanitarian situation in Gaza and call attention to the broader Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
