Hanwell Town secured a vital 2-1 victory against Taunton Town on Saturday, lifting themselves out of the relegation zone in their latest National League South encounter. The match, held at Taunton’s home ground, saw Hanwell earn their fourth win of the season as Taunton suffered their fourth defeat in six home games.

Taunton started the game with early attacking intent. Jack Rice created the first notable chance, setting up Jay Murray, whose initial shot was saved by the Hanwell goalkeeper. Rice later attempted a curling free-kick after Murray was fouled, but his effort sailed over the crossbar. Despite these early efforts, Taunton struggled to convert opportunities into goals.

The visitors took the lead in the 19th minute through Jordan Esprit, who successfully converted a penalty. Hanwell’s defense then held firm, preventing Taunton from capitalizing on their home advantage. Before halftime, Freddie Godden, Taunton’s goalkeeper, had to make a crucial save, tipping a set-piece from Hanwell over the bar.

Hanwell extended their lead shortly after the break when George Knight scored from a swiftly executed corner kick just four minutes into the second half. This goal further destabilized Taunton’s chances of mounting a comeback.

Taunton almost found a breakthrough as Scott Robinson’s effort was disallowed for offside with 15 minutes remaining. However, Ben Seymour managed to reduce the deficit four minutes later by scoring Taunton’s first goal of the game. Despite this, Taunton were unable to find an equalizer before the final whistle.

Hanwell’s disciplined defensive performance in the closing stages ensured they maintained their advantage, securing all three points and moving above the relegation places. Meanwhile, Taunton will look to address their issues at home as their struggles in front of goal continue.
