Harborough Town secured a narrow 1-0 victory over Rushall Olympic in a tightly contested match on Saturday. The game, held at Harborough’s home ground, remained largely subdued in the first half, with both teams finding it difficult to create clear scoring opportunities.

Harborough maintained a slight advantage in possession but struggled to penetrate Rushall’s well-organized defense. Rushall, known as the Pics, gradually grew more assertive as the first half progressed, with players Liam McAlinden and Carter Lycett posing threats down the left flank. Rushall’s Luke Yates came closest to scoring before halftime when his volley narrowly missed the target.

The visitors started the second half strongly, producing the best chance of the match shortly after the break. Yates drove forward and supplied a through ball to Alex Cameron, whose shot was expertly saved by Harborough’s goalkeeper Elliot Taylor.

In response, Harborough’s manager introduced two substitutes, Sam Osborne and Riley O’Sullivan, just before the hour mark. The tactical changes quickly bore fruit. Osborne created space and supplied Michael Jacobs, who was positioned on the edge of the penalty area. In the 62nd minute, Jacobs struck a left-footed shot that deflected on its way, looping over Rushall’s goalkeeper Oliver Taylor and into the net.

Rushall nearly found an equalizer later in the match when substitute Luke Benbow executed a backheel pass to Jordan Brown, whose attempt went narrowly wide.

Despite late pressure from Rushall, Harborough held on to claim all three points, improving their standing with a hard-fought win.
