Britain’s Harriet Dart and Austria’s fourth-seeded Lilli Tagger advanced to the final of the Guangzhou Open on Sunday following contrasting semifinal performances.

Dart secured her place in the championship match after a hard-fought three-set victory over China’s 16-year-old Xinran Sun. The British player overcame a first-set loss and saved three match points late in the second set before prevailing 5-7, 7-6 (7-1), 6-0 in a match lasting two hours and 29 minutes. After staving off defeat in the 10th game of the second set, Dart dominated the tiebreak and carried her momentum into the third set, where Sun’s performance declined sharply.

In contrast, Tagger cruised through her semifinal against Spain’s Kaitlin Quevedo in just 52 minutes. The Austrian displayed commanding service games, winning all 19 points on her first serve, including five aces, and never faced a break point. Tagger dispatched Quevedo 6-2, 6-0 in a dominant display.

The upcoming final marks a stark contrast between Dart’s resilience and Tagger’s efficiency as both players vie for the Guangzhou Open title.
