Harriet Dart advanced to the semi-finals of the Guangzhou Open after overcoming fifth seed Paula Badosa in a three-set match on Thursday. This marks only the second time in her career that Dart has reached the semi-final stage of a WTA event.

Badosa started the match strongly, taking the first set 6-3 with commanding play. The fifth seed appeared in control early on, dictating the pace and hitting consistently to maintain the upper hand. However, Badosa required medical treatment twice during the contest, which may have affected her momentum.

Dart responded robustly in the second set, breaking Badosa’s serve three times and leveraging a strong first-serve performance to claim the set 6-2. Building on this momentum, Dart continued to apply pressure in the deciding set, ultimately securing a 6-4 victory to complete the comeback.

With this result, Dart reaches the semi-final round at a WTA tournament for the first time since the 2024 Transylvania Open. She will face either Xinran Sun or Claire Liu in the next stage as she aims to advance further in the competition.
