Harrogate Town secured their fourth consecutive National League victory with a 1-0 win over Woking at the Laithwaite Stadium on Saturday. The second-placed Sulphurites extended their unbeaten run, registering their third straight clean sheet in a tightly contested match.

Ellis Taylor, returning to the starting lineup in place of the injured captain and leading scorer Bailey Hobson, scored the decisive goal shortly before halftime. The 23-year-old winger capitalized on a physical challenge, outpacing Woking’s Chin Okoli, and drove a low shot past goalkeeper Will Jaaskelainen from a narrow angle to give Harrogate the lead in the 32nd minute.

The game remained competitive, with both sides struggling to create clear chances early on. Woking’s Tariq Hinds came close when a free kick struck the side netting of Harrogate goalkeeper Luke Hutchinson’s goal, while Harrogate had limited opportunities aside from Taylor’s strike.

Following the goal, Woking briefly revived their attack, with Hutchinson called into action to deny attempts from Aiden O’Brien and John Marquis. However, Woking’s challenge was hampered late in the first half when captain Chin Okoli sustained a leg injury and had to be stretchered off. His replacement, Tunji Akinola, was unable to spark significant offensive momentum for the hosts.

Woking maintained possession in the second half and pushed for an equalizer, but Harrogate’s defense remained resolute. Hutchinson’s main contribution was a save from a long-range shot by Harrison Sohna. Substitute Taylan Harris missed Woking’s best late chance when his header from a Liam Dulson cross went over the crossbar.

Speaking after the match, Harrogate manager Simon Weaver acknowledged the difficulty of the encounter. “We had to dig deep,” Weaver said, highlighting the volume of set pieces delivered into his team’s box and the physical challenge presented by Woking’s forwards. “To come away with a 1-0 win, with a miserly backline digging in, is sometimes as satisfactory as any win gets.”

Woking’s joint interim manager Craig Ross noted mixed feelings despite the defeat. “They’re second in the league at the minute and they’ve caused teams problems, but I wouldn’t say they caused us a problem today for the most part,” Ross stated. “We need to take the positives that we can be a top team in this league when we’re at our best, which we weren’t today, but it gives us belief in that respect.”

The result leaves Harrogate firmly positioned near the top of the National League standings as they continue their pursuit of promotion, while Woking will look to build on encouraging recent form despite the setback.
