Harry Kane has set a new Bundesliga record by becoming the fastest player to score 100 league goals, achieving the milestone in Bayern Munich’s 7-0 victory over Union Berlin on Friday. The England captain reached the milestone in just 98 matches, breaking a 49-year-old record previously held by Dieter Muller of Cologne, who took 129 games to reach 100 Bundesliga goals in 1977.

Kane’s scoring rate since joining Bayern Munich has been notable, averaging a goal every 78.5 minutes across all competitions. Since his arrival at the Allianz Arena, he has scored 152 goals in 154 appearances, underlining his consistent performance in Germany's top flight. “I’m very proud to have now scored 100 and 101 Bundesliga goals,” Kane said following the game, adding that he has “loved every second of it.”

The record-setting performance comes amid an ongoing debate about the Ballon d’Or, the annual award recognizing the world’s best football player, scheduled to be presented in London later this year. Recently, Barcelona forward Lamine Yamal sparked discussion by suggesting the award should prioritize overall quality rather than just goal-scoring statistics. Yamal remarked that the award should recognize the best player in the world instead of simply someone “who has scored 80 goals.”

Kane declined to engage deeply in the debate, emphasizing his preference to focus on his performances rather than personal accolades. “Ballon d’Or? I don’t really like talking about myself. I focus on my work on the pitch. Everyone has their own opinion on the subject, and that’s OK,” he said.

When asked specifically about Yamal’s comments, Kane acknowledged the Barcelona player’s talent and good form, while pointing out the strong competition for the award. “Yamal is an incredible player. He had a great season, as did many others – Kylian Mbappe, Michael Olise, Rodri. There are many candidates,” he said. Kane reiterated his commitment to his own game, stating, “I’ll keep doing my thing on the pitch, and we’ll see what happens.”

As the Ballon d’Or contenders continue to emerge, Kane’s record-breaking achievement adds another highlight to his career and places him firmly among the elite players expected to be considered for the prestigious honor later this year.
