Harry Redknapp officially opened AFC Portchester’s newly upgraded On-Site Group Stadium, marking the completion of a £1.2 million enhancement project. The improvements include a new state-of-the-art 3G pitch, aimed at providing better facilities for players and supporters alike.
The opening event featured a match in which AFC Portchester secured a 2-0 victory. Early in the game, Ryan Pennery had the best opportunity of the first half when his shot beat goalkeeper Tyler Tobin but struck the post. The second half saw a notable moment when Jason Prior was fouled in the penalty area, resulting in a spot-kick attempt. However, Tobin was able to save Pennery’s penalty, which lacked power and placement.
With approximately seven minutes remaining, the breakthrough came from a corner delivered by Brandon Haunstrup. Archie Willcox connected with the ball to head in the opener. Shortly after, Destiny Ojo set up the second goal with a close-range shot that was initially saved by Tobin but fell back to Pennery, who volleyed into the net to secure the win.
The stadium upgrades are expected to enhance the club’s playing environment and could support future growth, both on and off the pitch. Redknapp’s presence at the opening highlighted the significance of the milestone for AFC Portchester and the local football community.
